Below is just a small selection of available Herm Sprenger bits. We picked the most common types to explain their use and benefit.
Compared to conventional bits, the double jointed KK ULTRAs have a middle link – also known as the bean – that is shortened and angled forward by 45°.
Only with this angle the middle link lies gently on the tongue resulting in even and constant contact to allow clear instructions through the reins.
The innovative KK ULTRA bits take advantage of the exceptional sensitivity of the horse‘s tongue which multiplies the perceptions from signals given by the bit. When the reins are pulled the middle part of the KK ULTRA fully rests on the tongue without squeezing and the connection rings roll on the tongue. The tongue‘s sense of touch is utilized and clear instructions can be given.
The KK ULTRA bits provide an incomparable precisely contact between rider and horse. A huge improvement can normally be seen immediately when switching to a KK ULTRA bit.
The anatomically adapted mouthpiece is very comfortable for the horse as the rider can give softer instructions and the horse‘s suppleness is supported harmoniously.
KK ULTRA bits are characterized by:
- the unique angle of 45 degrees is the only way to get a true contact to the tongue. The round lozenge rolls down smoothly over the tongue and stimulates it in a gentle but effective way. Clearly defined aids can be given through the reins without squeezing the tongue.
- no pressure on the palate – the ergonomically designed mouthpiece is shaped like the horse’s tongue and therefore taking up less room in the mouth without interfering with the palate.
- gentle to mouth and tongue – this mouthpiece encourages a high level of responsiveness by an optimum contact resulting in relaxation and submissiveness.
These bits stimulate the horse to accept the bit more easily.
The ergonomically formed mouthpiece lies perfectly in the horse’s mouth resulting in soft and even pressure on the entire tongue area, encouraging the horse to chew. In addition this bit supports the contact to the corners of the mouth in a very effective way, keeping the horse on the bit. The gentle joint in the middle which is angled forward – the characteristic feature of the KK ULTRA – and the fine eggbutt design makes it a very friendly bit.
The mouthpiece is made of SENSOGAN, the material that activates the chewing activity of your horse.
The new DYNAMIC RS bit gives soft but very effective instructions for a better contact between horse and rider.
The ergonomically formed mouthpiece allows a rapid and balanced effect on the tongue.
- no pressure to the palate Dynamic RS mouthpieces give even pressure on the entire tongue area.
- gentle to mouth and tongue Supports the contact to the corners of the mouth in an extremely effective way, keeping the horse on the bit.
the link of the mouthpiece is turned to the front by 45° This unique angle is the only way to get a true contact with the tongue. When a contact is taken the mouthpiece rolls smoothly over the horse’s tongue and stimulates it in a gentle but effective way. Clearly defined aids can therefore be given through the reins without squeezing the tongue.
Uniquely shaped, especially sensitive.
SPRENGER introduces its latest invention in bit design.
novocontact bits are designed to create a unique oval shape which widens the contact surface on the tongue while the rider keeps a steady contact. As the rider gives a rein aid the mouthpiece turns forward and the contact surface gets narrower, ensuring more precise and effective communication. novocontact bits improve the interaction between horse and rider for a better contact and acceptance of the bit.
Extensively tested and highly recommended. Tests have shown that the single jointed novocontact bits are highly recommended for horses that do not take the contact confidently. They also provide added benefit for horses with a sensitive mouth, since the rider is able to give precise but soft aids. The double jointed novocontact bits are also ideal to use on horses that occasionally tend to pull against the hand, but are too sensitive to be ridden with stronger bits. novocontact bits are based on the latest scientific research and are suitable for every type of horse. The bits have been successfully tested and approved by professional and leisure riders. novocontact bits are now available in single and double jointed versions.

Another example for the brilliant collaboration with top riders are the WH-Ultra bits which SPRENGER developed together with top international dressage rider, Lisa Wilcox, and her trainer at that time, Ernst Hoyos. The WH-Ultra bits are the perfect result of a test series that has been done together to extend the approved KK-Ultra bit range.
KK-Ultra mouthpiece with the middle link turned forward by 45° provides gentle but effective communication with the horse. The additional feature of the WH-Ultra bits is a unique roller in the center section that brings the horse’s focus even better onto the tongue. This bit is a good choice for horses that like to lean on the bit and ignore aids.
WH ULTRA Soft Snaffle
A different variation of the approved KK ULTRA bits: the center section is provided with a soft but durable rubber cover. Helps to introduce a horse more easily to the bit. The aids given with the reins are carefully directed to the horse‘s tongue resulting in prompt chewing activity, thus causing relaxed and contented horses. This bit can help to prevent tongue problems and teeth-grinding in an ideal way. A very good choice for horses with a ‘busy’ mouth.
